Joaquim Tenreiro (1906-1992) developed many partitions throughout his career, used to divide the rooms of the homes he decorated.
The partition was a significant element of oriental decoration incorporated into the customs of Portugal and Europe. This piece, tailored to furnish a house in São Paulo, has a solid Rosewood structure covered by cane weave. The Rosewood structure received treatment, and the cane will b restored.
After wood, the cane is the material that most represents the work Tenreiro developed. It is the use of this material that gives the furniture designed by him its most characteristic texture. For the humid heat of the tropics, the cane provided ventilation, both for the furniture and the residences' internal spaces, mainly in urban dwellings.
