Afra and Tobia Scarpa designed the iconic ‘Soriana’ collection for Cassina in 1969, with the chair model as its first piece. In 1970, it earned the prestigious Compasso d’Oro award, cementing its place in design history.
The ‘Soriana’ revolutionized upholstered furniture by embracing the versatility of polyurethane foam. Its relaxed yet luxurious look is achieved through cinched fabric secured with chrome-plated steel clamps, creating a distinctive pleated effect. Both the single-seat chair and three-seat sofa share this innovative design approach, making them visually cohesive and unmistakable.
Combining beauty and comfort, the ‘Soriana’ collection became a symbol of 1970s interior design and a sought-after collectible. This collaboration between the Scarpa duo and Cassina marked a high point in their shared legacy, producing pieces that remain timeless and influential.
This pair of chairs has received new upholstery and is in great condition.
