Geraldo de Barros (1923–1998) was a renowned Brazilian artist, recognized for his significant contributions to various forms of art, including painting, photography, graphic design, furniture design, and concrete poetry. He was born in Chavantes, in the state of São Paulo, Brazil.
As a furniture designer, Barros contributed to the modernization of Brazilian interior design. His work at Unilabor is especially celebrated for its innovative furniture pieces, which often combined geometric forms with materials such as fine wood, resulting in elegant and functional creations.
Rare pair of rosewood armchairs, designed by Geraldo de Barros for Unilabor.
These pieces have been fully restored, with special emphasis on the rosewood veneer backrest showcasing beautiful visible grains. The design features straight lines reminiscent of Geraldo de Barros's characteristic geometric style: one of the great Brazilian artists, his works are held in the collections of MoMA, MASP, Pinacoteca de São Paulo, among other institutions. This particular example is documented on page 271 of the book "Brazilian Modern Furniture" (the piece itself was photographed for the publication).
