The Polyside Chair or Hille Chair, as it became known in Brazil, was the first piece to be produced on a large scale by L'Atelier, Jorge Zalszupin's company.
It was designed by Robin Day for the English furniture manufacturer Hille in 1963 and launched in Brazil in 1968, with extensive publicity advertisements and reports that included it in different interior decoration proposals. By combining an affordable price with comfort and mechanical resistance, the stacking chair was a huge success. It operated in different domestic or corporate environments and was widely used to furnish schools, cafeterias, kitchens, and offices.
The one seat and back piece was injection molded from polypropylene – a lightweight thermoplastic with high impact resistance – on tubular steel legs. The Hille Chair is an essential item in Brazilian Design history and a mark of innovation using plastic as prime material.
This variation of the model features white leather upholstery.
