Percival Lafer's inventive nature expressed itself in the most different creations he adventured: architecture, cars, payphone hoods, newsstands, and medical care objects. But it was in the furniture making that he reached his most significant impact.
The MP-61 sofa and armchair, from 1973, were the first two pieces designed by Percival Lafer that used a visible fiberglass shell structure. Fiberglass freedom and swiftness in defining the shape of the objects simplified production and minimize costs. The foam upholstery was applied directly onto the fiberglass shell, resting over a cross base made of plywood plates covered in Rosewood veneers.
Móveis Lafer, where Percival designed a wide range of products, played a substantial role in Brazilian furniture in the second half of the 20th century. Innovations in technique and form resulted in standardized elements reused in different product lines, with solutions such as demountable and easy-to-transport products. The market welcomed Percival's creations, and the rapid industrial growth made it possible to export the pieces.
This armchair is unrestored. Restoration services by our Workshop are included in the acquisition price. The deadline for carrying out the procedures varies according to each case. Please let us know what you need, and we will find the best way to attend to you.
