The 2-2 armchair, produced in 1949 by Móveis Artísticos Z by José Zanine Caldas and H. Shicker, is a notable piece because the designers innovated in the use of materials and techniques for plywood in mid-century modern design. The lightweight armchair is structured with two pieces of cut plywood screwed to the seat and back, both wooden frames covered with springs and upholstered armrests, and a wooden rod to reinforce the structure under the seat. This model best exemplifies the interventions carried out in projects to reduce production costs after the departure of Zanine Caldas. The armchair design is minimalist yet functional, with an emphasis on clean lines and geometric shapes. The armchair usually features a low back and wide seat, combining comfort with a sleek appearance. The armchair embodies the expressions of the second phase of Brazil's modernization by dialoguing with the new languages of design projects, aligned with the production of mass-produced furniture without the need for specialized labor for its production.
