The iconic Petala is a coffee table designed by Jorge Zalszupin (1922-2020) in 1959 and produced by his company, L'atelier. The piece is made of molded laminate wood with a petal shape.
Much more than rationalizing design, Zalszupin focused mainly on the acquisition and use of new technologies and materials to make series production viable. This focus on new technologies and materials meant a path to the aesthetic freedom that he desired so much, and the molded laminated rosewood allowed the designer to execute the longed-for curves without necessarily implying the adoption of long and expensive manual processes
The Petalas coffee table has three versions, with four, six, or eight wooden veneered lozenges mounted on iron structures.
This piece is composed of six lozenges and is in great vintage condition, unrestored.
