This gorgeous pair of Cube Armchairs is a statement for itself. The Cube collection is a creation by Jorge Zalszupin (1922-2020), designed c. 1970, and it still leaves us breathless.
The elegance, a feature of Zalszupin designs, on this piece does not come from sculpted wood details or the delicacy and lightness of curves, but the well-shaped solid structure: an extremely comfortable sofa carved in a cube.
For reupholstering this pair, inspired by the 1970s aesthetics, we chose an olive corduroy velvet to match the geometric shape. The way stripes meet in the corners gives an extra charm to the pieces.
Zalszupin's work as a designer, entrepreneur, and manager is an example of a transition process from the artisanal production mode, with unique and custom pieces, to serial industrial production. The Polish-born Brazilian designer focused mainly on acquiring and using new technologies and materials to make serial production viable. These pieces are a gorgeous example of his inventive mind.
